Walmart Looks to Have Leaked Two Nintendo Switch Online GameCube Classics — and Some Fans Think It’s Now Over for a Metroid Prime 2 Remake

Walmart is advertising Nintendo Switch Online with a poster that includes several GameCube classics yet to be made available via the service.

An image visible now on Walmart.com shows a library of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack titles including the brilliant Pikmin 2 and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, neither of which are currently playable on Switch 2.

Metroid Prime 2 is of particular interest to fans, as some had speculated its release was deliberately being held back so Nintendo could sell a full remake of the game instead. The company launched a full Metroid Prime 1 remake back in 2023, but has since made no comment about continuing to relaunch the rest of the classic trilogy.

Now, with Metroid Prime 2: Echoes seemingly being added to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack catalogue, some fans have said their hopes of a remake have now dimmed. Others, meanwhile, have criticized the decision to simply re-release the game’s original GameCube version when its Wii re-release included some notable balance changes.

“I am very glad we are getting Prime 2, but I was really hoping for a remake like Prime 1,” wrote pojosamaneo. “Prime 2 is incredible, and deserves a remake.”

“Prime 2 being an NSO game isn’t just not preferable over getting the remaster treatment, but because the OG GameCube release is rough,” wrote Mymouthiscancerous. “It has insane difficulty spikes with bosses like Spider Guardian and Boost Guardian which were only rectified with the Wii port as part of Metroid Prime Trilogy. It’s the same reason why Nintendo just plopping Wind Waker on NSO instead of porting HD just sucks when there’s an objectively better version out there stuck in Wii U purgatory.”

Pikmin 2 already got its own Switch remaster, of course, launched back in 2023.

This isn’t the first time a retailer has leaked upcoming Nintendo Switch Online games before Nintendo itself has made them official. Back in October last year, fellow GameCube addition Luigi’s Mansion was leaked by Target, just prior to Nintendo confirming its arrival to its subscription service.

As expectation mounts for a full Nintendo Direct in February, it may not be long until Metroid Prime 2 and Pikmin 2 are also made official.

Before all that, there is another Nintendo Direct this week — focused on upcoming Switch social sim Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. This will come just days after last weekend’s Nintendo Direct that debuted a new Super Mario Galaxy Movie trailer.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Nintendo Direct: Everything Announced

Nintendo has revealed a new trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie during this weekend’s surprise Nintendo Direct, showing off Yoshi and several other classic characters making their big screen debut.

Hosted by the legendary creator of Mario, Shigeru Miyamoto, the short presentation began quickly with an extended look at Mario and Luigi motorbiking over the desert, as seen in the movie’s previous trailer. The duo head to a location familiar to anyone who’s played Super Mario Odyssey, an inverted pyramid in the Sand Kingdom.

Tasked with unblocking a rogue Warp Pipe, Mario and Luigi power up with Fire Flowers and head into the darkness. As Mario’s infamous underground music plays, the brothers reach the blocked pipe which has something inside… It’s Yoshi! Who talks!

Yoshi gets a full reveal

Rather than the tough-looking enemy the brothers were expecting to find, Yoshi is shown to be initially fearful of Mario and Luigi, though later shots in the trailer make clear that the diminuitive dino quickly becomes part of the gang.

If you’ve watched the previous Super Mario Bros. Movie, you’ll know that Yoshi’s appearance had been expected following that film’s post-credits scene, which featured a green Yoshi egg beginning to crack open. Today’s trailer also gives us our first sense of how Yoshi will sound, as he is able to mumble a few words as well as his calling out his name.

The trailer then continues with a montage of shots featuring Mario and Peach infiltrating a lava-filled area that looks like a Bowser’s Castle level. We also see a Toad gobbled up by an enormous Cheep Cheep, who is saved by Luigi wearing the classic Frog Suit Power-Up.

Birdo, Mouser and Lakitu confirmed

Another quick montage of shots gives us our first look at Birdo, who is shown angrily firing eggs at Peach. The princess shields herself using her parasol, and for a split second we see Mouser, a real deep cut character that players of Super Mario Bros. 2 will recognize as a rodent boss from the game.

Whatever’s going on here, it makes sense that we see Birdo and Mouser together in the same sequence — as both appeared in Super Mario Bros. 2, set in the world of Subcon. Has Peach been given her own sidequest to complete here, early in the film, while Mario and Luigi are off in the Sand Kingdom?

The next clip also shows our first look at Lakitu on the big screen, who fires projectiles at Mario, Luigi and Yoshi.

Peach and… Mouser?!

Baby Luigi and Baby Mario are back

The trailer concludes with Yoshi clutching a gun that looks similar to the SNES Super Scope, while Toad holds Baby Luigi and Baby Mario. What is going on here? The group is shown to be facing off against a T-Rex, who looks straight out of Super Mario Odyssey.

Today’s Nintendo Direct wrapped up with a quick recap of Yoshi’s history throughout Nintendo games of the past, and a check-in with Chris Meledandri, boss of animation studio Illumination. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’s animation work is now fully completed, Meledandri revealed, and the film is now in post-production.

As work on the movie’s sound and music continues, themes from the Super Mario Galaxy games are being re-recorded for the film’s soundtrack, using a 70-piece orchestra.

Is this a flashback to Mario and Luigi as kids?

No new voice actors confirmed

Intriguingly, Nintendo did not name the actor providing Yoshi’s vocals — or any new additions to the film’s voice cast.

Rosalina and Bowser Jr. also sit this trailer out completely, after being the focus back in November, during the movie’s previous dedicated Nintendo Direct that revealed Rosalina and confirmed the space princess would be voiced by Marvel star Brie Larson. The same trailer also announced that Bowser Jr. would be voiced by Benny Safdie.

Safdie and Larson are joined by all of the same major cast members back from the first movie: Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

Previously, we heard word that the movie will feature some Nintendo characters that “are really deep cuts“, and fans have speculated that its plot may finally confirm a long-held theory around Peach and Rosalina’s origins.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will now land in theaters on April 1, two days’ earlier than first announced, to align with other international releases.

Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games: Release Dates for 2026 and Beyond

We now have our hands on the Nintendo Switch 2, a new console from one of the biggest names in gaming. Alas, a new console is only as valuable as the library of games you can build on it.

Thankfully, Nintendo hasn’t been shy about planned releases over the next year, which include a mix of Switch 2 exclusives, third-party releases, and the benefit of backward compatibility with any games still launching on the original Switch. Without further ado, here are all of the new Switch 2 games we can look forward to in 2026.

All Upcoming Switch 2 Games With Release Dates

Dispatch (January 28, 2026)

One of the best games of 2025 is promptly making its way to both Switch and Switch 2. The episodic adventure game developed by AdHoc Studio puts you in charge of a task force of “rehabilitated” super villains, which happens to consist of an incredibly stacked cast. IGN’s 9/10 review describes the full season as “a true spiritual successor to the Telltale Games of the 2010s,” highlighting the game’s blend of TV and gaming elements.

Starsand Island (February 1, 2026)

There’s never a shortage of cozy vibes on Switch, which continues with Starsand Island, a Starew Valley-esque simulation sandbox game. Escape from the city to harvest crops, go fishing, protect local ruins, and, of course, befriend all your new neighbors in the countryside.

Deus Ex Remastered (February 5, 2026)

Announced at the September State of Play, the iconic action RPG originally developed by Ion Storm is getting a new remaster in 2026, bringing the game to modern-gen consoles. Rick Sanchez didn’t hold back the praise in his 9.4 review for IGN back in 2002: “Deep story, awesome graphics, and intense fun. You must play this game!”

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined (February 5, 2026)

Dragon Quest is really going at it with the remakes. It started with HD-2D remakes of the first three games, and now we’re skipping a few installments to go straight to Fragments of the Past. This next ‘revamp’ goes for “Reimagined,” and features a pretty substantial overhaul of the graphics and gameplay from the original JRPG released in 2001.

Mario Tennis Fever (February 12, 2026)*

Mario Tennis is making its return with the first new release since 2018’s Mario Tennis Aces. The sports game will continue the more recent tradition of a Story Mode alongside Tournament, Trial Towers, and Mix It Up modes, all while featuring a whopping 38 playable characters.

Blazblue Entropy Effect X (February 12, 2026)

Next up, we’re getting an expanded, console version of the Blazblue spin-off originally released for mobile and PC in 2023. The action roguelite sets you on an adventure into the Sea of Possibility with new characters and story additions.

Reanimal (February 12, 2026)

From the creators of Little Nightmares 1 and 2 (not 3, keep that in mind), Reanimal is a new co-op horror game. Tap in a friend to play as siblings who must traverse through some incredibly creepy environments to rescue their missing friends. The game also supports a single-player mode.

Yakuza Kiwami 3 + Dark Ties (February 12, 2026)

Yep, there are a lot of games coming out on February 12. To add to the bunch, RGG is releasing what we called a “much-needed” Yakuza 3 remake alongside a completely new companion story. Yakuza Kiwami 3 brings combat and QoL improvements to the original game, while Dark Ties lets you play out antagonist Yoshitaka Mine’s rise to power in the criminal underworld.

Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown (February 18, 2026)

Have you ever wished you could take control of the USS Voyager? Well, here’s your chance. The latest Star Trek game throws you and your ship 700,000 light years into Deep Space, tasking you with managing resources and your crew to make your way out in one piece.

Resident Evil: Requiem and Resident Evil Generation Pack (February 27, 2026)

It’s a big one. Resident Evil: Requiem will be available on Switch 2 at launch, marking one of the first third-party AAA releases taking advantage of a cross-platform release with the new Nintendo console. The new game will feature Grace Ashcroft and Leon Kennedy as dual protagonists, with each character bringing their own stealth and action gameplay.

Alongside the newest Resident Evil game, the Switch 2 will also be getting “Gold” editions of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village, available separately or as part of a Resident Evil Generation Pack collection.

Pokémon Pokopia (March 5, 2026)*

Now we’re back to the cozy vibes. Pokémon Pokopia was revealed at a September Nintendo Direct as what appears to be a pretty obvious blend of Pokémon and Animal Crossing. This is Nintendo, so they can do that. As a Ditto, you can transform to use a variety of skills and build up your Pokémon oasis.

Never Grave: The Witch and The Curse (March 5, 2026)

From PocketPair, Never Grave is a new 2D roguelite where you harness magic powers (as a hat, of course) to journey into the deep, working to help a young witch retrieve her soul. You also have a home base you can build and upgrade into your own little village.

Coffee Talk Tokyo (March 5, 2026)

We finally have a release date for the next iteration of Coffee Talk, a cozy cafe series developed by Toge Productions. Manage a new but familiar cafe while learning more about your human and yokai customers.

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection (March 13, 2026)

We’re getting a third game in the Monster Hunter Stories series, a sub-series of Monster Hunter that we’re pretty big fans of (we gave the first one an 8.9/10, and the second got an 8/10). The next story will follow a civil conflict between Azuria and Vermeil, two nations threatened by a “crystal encroachment.”

Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (March 26, 2026)*

Nintendo knows they have some modern classics, and they’re giving them a lot of love with this Switch 2 release. Following up on last year’s Super Mario Galaxy remaster, Nintendo is releasing a Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which we originally said “establishes a new standard for what 2D Mario platformers should look like” in our 9/10 review. The Switch 2 edition will feature a new area called Bellabel Park, new playable characters, and tons of new mini-games.

Pragmata (April 24, 2026)

After a series of delays dating back to 2021, Capcom finally “re-revealed” Pragmata with a firm release date and confirmation of cross-platform support. A fresh IP, Pragmata is a third-person sci-fi shooter that takes a pretty funky approach to shooting mechanics. You can learn more about that in our hands-on preview.

007 First Light (May 27, 2026)

Yet another massive multi-platform release, IO Interactive’s take on James Bond is launching on Switch 2 alongside PC, PS5, and Xbox in late May. The game lets you play out Bond’s initial recruitment and rise in the MI6 ranks, featuring Patrick Gibson as the titular spy and Lenny Kravitz as the villain Bawma.

As you should already know, the Switch 2 console will only accept MicroSD Express cards. If you have a standard MicroSD card from your previous Switch, you sadly won’t be able to use it to store games in the Switch 2. Although the two might look similar, MicroSD Express cards are much, much faster than their precedessors, with speeds of up to 800MB/s. MicroSD cards, on the other hand, cap out at well under 200MB/s.

The Baseus wall charger is very compact thanks to its use of gallium nitride (GaN) instead of the more common silicon for its semiconductor material. This makes the charger smaller, faster, and more energy-efficient than a traditional charger. The plug portion can also fold out of the way so that it doesn’t get damaged during travel.

There are a total of three ports: two USB Type-C ports and one USB Type-A port each capable of 67W of power output. Note that the maximum output for all three ports is 67W as well, so if you used all three at time same time, you would pull about 22W per port. This throttling is actually a good thing; charging at 201W (67Wx3) would generate a ton of heat and you’d need a bigger, less portable enclosure to accommodate it.

The 67W power output per port is higher than what I typically see at this price point. It matches the charging output of the adapters that come packaged with even the most power hungry handheld gaming PCs like the Xbox Ally X, ROG Ally X, Legion Go S, and Legion Go 2. It can also easily charge the Steam Deck, which only takes 35W max. As for the Switch 2, you could charge three consoles simultaneously at their maximum rate (the Switch 2 only accepts about 20W max).
