After a quick teaser during the September Nintendo Direct, a new trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy movie has been revealed. The sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie is scheduled to be released on April 3, 2026, and it once again features the vocal talents of the 2023 film’s cast, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, and Jack Black as Bowser.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a big hit at the box office, taking in over $1.36 billion globally during its run and becoming the biggest video game movie ever. Not just commercially successful, the film earned positive reviews and Jack Black’s “Peaches” song became a viral earworm for a few months as well. One of the new additions to the film will be Yoshi, as a Pillsbury box recently leaked a first look at Mario’s fan-favorite dinosaur pal.
Dozens of other video game movies are in varying stages of development, but if you’re feeling impatient for something related to video games, you can catch Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 on December 5.

From Red and Blue to Scarlet and Violet, Pokémon is known for often launching its games with two different versions — and now, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto has discussed one of the reasons why: to try and rival the sales of his own creation, Super Mario.
Since its inception on the Game Boy, Pokémon has typically released its mainline games twice, ensuring diehard fans pay double to own both varieties. Over the years, the decision has proven lucrative — and, of course, that was the plan all along.
Speaking during an investor Q&A meeting this week, in response to a question about whether Mario Kart’s enormous sales could ever be lapped, Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto said he’d once spoken to Pokémon creator Satoshi Tajiri and heard his plan to beat Mario.
“A long time ago, before creating the first Pokémon game, Satoshi Tajiri, the director of Pokémon, joked with me that to surpass Nintendo’s Mario he’d have to sell two copies of the game to each consumer,” Miyamoto revealed.
“That is one reason why Pokémon started with both Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue,” he continued. “I believe that new ideas are born precisely because of people like him, who challenge themselves to surpass what came before.”
In the past, official discussion of why Pokémon frequently arrives in two flavors has centered on the possibilities for player interaction this opens up. Each Pokémon version traditionally offers a different set of creatures to collect, encouraging players to meet and trade. More recent Pokémon games have also offered minor story differences between versions, tempting fans to play both games for the full experience. And, frequently, Nintendo has sold double packs of the two versions together, sometimes at a slight discount.

As for whether any game could ever actually beat Mario Kart — and specifically, the enormous sales of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Switch 1 — Miyamoto was coy.
“If some Nintendo IP or innovation is widely accepted by consumers as something new and never before seen, the numbers could potentially reach beyond the boundaries of entertainment,” he suggested. “One thing that is interesting about Nintendo is that it’s okay to try anything.
“On the other hand, even if something like that happens, Mario Kart would probably continue to sell well in that undertaking as well, so it may never be surpassed!”

The GameSir X5s has ergonomic, textured handles that should be more comfortable for most players when compared to the flat Joy-Con 2 grips. Like other dedicated mobile controllers, the X5s has an extendable bridge and silicone pads to cradle devices measuring up to 8.38 inches: Switch 2, Switch OLED, Switch, all iPhones, most Android phones, and small tablets.
The X5s is equipped with Hall Effect sticks and has removable face buttons, so you can switch between Xbox and Nintendo control layouts. Another advanced feature is dual trigger modes. The Hall Effect triggers can move linearly like a regular controller, or you can lock them as rapid-fire buttons. Speaking of rapid-fire, there’s also a turbo function that can be assigned to the face buttons, bumpers, or triggers. It also has 6-axis motion controls and a conventional, 4-way D-pad.
With GameSir’s free mobile app, you can adjust stick and trigger sensitivities as well as the intensity of the dual rumble motors. The controller charges via USB-C and can run for up to 12 hours between charges.
The G8 Plus has all of the features found on the X5s, but it also has two remappable back buttons, removable faceplates, and comes with five swappable stick tops. It also has a larger form factor and cradles devices up to 8.46 inches.
I’ve tested the G8 Plus with Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and iPhone and was impressed by its performance and ergonomics.

If you’re mainly interested in improving the Switch 2’s ergonomics in handheld mode, you could opt for an attachable grip instead. Since the Switch 2’s June launch, the market for ergonomic grips has grown quite crowded. My favorite Switch 2 grip so far is Dbrand’s Killswitch, which is now sold at Best Buy in an $80 bundle that comes with a cover for the screen. The Killswitch has individual controller grips with contoured ridges to rest your fingers on. You can still use the console’s built-in kickstand with the shell attached to the back, too. Unlike some Switch 2 grips, however, the Killswitch prevents you from docking the console normally. Fortunately, it comes with a Switch 2 dock adapter that connects to Nintendo’s Dock Set. It’s cleverly designed and works incredibly well. The travel cover also has an attachment to store 10 game cards.
Another grip I’d recommend is Genki’s Attack Vector Grip Case. I don’t think it’s as comfortable as Dbrand’s Killswitch, but it can use the Switch 2 Dock Set like normal. It comes with three different pairs of grips that can be swapped on the fly to fit your personal preference. Genki’s Attack Vector also comes with a travel cover. You can buy it for $60 at Amazon. It’s worth noting Genki also makes a slim travel cover grip called the Force Field 2 that’s $30.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond doesn’t launch until December 4 on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, but the first two Amiibo hit stores next week. Amazon has restocked preorders for the new Samus Amiibo and the Samus & Vi-O-La Amiiboahead of their November 6 launch. The Sylux Amiibo, which releases the same day as the game, is currently sold out at Amazon, but Walmart recently restocked preorders.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond for Nintendo Switch 2 includes the base Switch game and the Switch 2 Upgrade Pack for $70. Like other first-party Switch 2 games and select third-party titles, the full game is stored on the cartridge, so you won’t need to download any data beyond patches.
The Switch 2 version of Metroid Prime 4 has better visuals, enhanced resolutions in handheld and docked modes, and higher frame rates. Two different graphics modes will be available at launch. When the Switch 2 is docked, Quality mode renders Samus’ latest adventure in 4K at 60fps. Performance mode offers 1080p resolution at 120fps. Metroid Prime 4’s handheld experience offers 1080p resolution at 60fps in Quality mode and 720p at 120fps in Performance mode. High Dynamic Range is supported at all times.
Switch 2 players also have the option to use mouse controls with the Joy-Con 2 to aim Samus’ arm canon. Players can swap freely between dual stick, mouse, and gyro motion controls at any time.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond retails for 10 bucks less on original Switch hardware. Like other games with versions for both generations of Switch hardware, you can upgrade to the Switch 2 edition for $10. The upgrade is available for digital and physical owners of Prime 4 on Switch.

PowerA’s Metroid Prime-themed gaming earbuds look pretty cool, but it’s worth noting upfront that the controller doesn’t have a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Switch 2 console, however, does support wired earbuds.
The $25 earbuds feature Metroid iconography on each side and three swappable silicone tips. It has an inline microphone for voice chat, 8mm dynamic audio drivers, and an adjustable slider to prevent the wires from becoming tangled.
Honestly, though, the coolest feature might be the drawstring storage bag, as it features three pieces of key art depicting Samus based on her appearances in the original trilogy.
The Metroid Prime Trilogy Crossbody Bag features the same artwork found on the drawstring bag included with the earbuds. PowerA says the bag is designed for Nintendo Switch OLED, Switch, and Switch Lite. That said, it will work with the Nintendo Switch 2 if you remove the Joy-Con 2 Controllers.
Speaking of the Metroid Prime Trilogy, the official visual retrospective released October 28. Made by the team behind the beautiful Legend of Zelda strategy guides, Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective is a 208-page clothbound hardcover that all fans will want to check out.
The book includes concept art, sketches, and illustrations as well as commentary from Retro Studios developers and other behind-the-scenes materials such as producer’s notes from Nintendo’s archives. The book covers Metroid Prime, Prime 2: Echoes, Prime 3: Corruption, and Metroid Prime Remastered.
Series producer Kensuke Tanabe wrote the foreword for the book, and each game’s section is introduced by a developer from Retro Studios.
Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective is a gorgeous book. It has an etched metallic-foil illustration of Samus on the clothbound cover, sheet-fed art paper, and a stitched binding.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was initially revealed back at E3 2017, just a few months after the Nintendo Switch launched. Preorders actually opened at the same time. Many fans had an Amazon preorder for nearly eight years before the retailer finally canceled all existing orders earlier this year. Prime 4 was originally being developed by Bandai Namco, but the project was scrapped and restarted in 2019 by Retro Studios. The Nintendo subsidiary developed the previous three Prime games, and Beyond is led by the original producer Kensuke Tanabe. Gameplay footage shown so far has looked very promising.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond takes place after the events of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, though how far after remains unclear. What we do know is that it will see Samus explore an all-new planet, Viewros, populated by a new musical alien race called The Lamorn who have called on Samus to save the planet from an unknown threat. Samus has all-new psychic powers that will allow her to interface with the strange ruins and artifacts on Viewros and defend herself against the deadly creatures that live there. As confirmed in an earlier gameplay trailer, Samus’ enigmatic rival, Sylux, will also appear and clearly plays a pivotable role in the storyline.
If you’re looking to play earlier Metroid Prime games before the Beyond arrives, unfortunately, the long-rumored Metroid Prime Trilogy for Switch never materialized. But you can at least play the gorgeous 2023 remaster of the original GameCube hit. Metroid Prime Remastered is a brilliant modernization of the 2002 classic. You can snag the physical edition for Nintendo Switch for $40 at Amazon. Samus’ 2021 side-scrolling adventure Metroid Dread is also well-worth playing.

The next Nintendo Direct is coming up very soon. Nintendo has announced that a second Nintendo Direct dedicated to Kirby Air Riders is taking place on Thursday, October 23 at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET.
Masahiro Sakurai, the game’s director, will appear in the Direct to share more information about Kirby Air Riders. This is a beefy broadcast, clocking in at about 60 minutes, Nintendo said. The event will stream on YouTube and Twitch, along with the Nintendo Today app.
GameSpot tried Kirby Air Riders at Gamescom this year. Editor Steve Watts wrote, “For casual players like myself, Kirby Air Riders looks to be a sweet experience to play with friends, especially in couch co-op, fueling a rowdy party atmosphere.”
Kirby Air Riders will launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 20.
If you’re looking for a new game to play on your Nintendo Switch or Switch 2, one of the best console exclusives of the year is on sale for its best price yet. Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, the latest entry in Marvelous’ popular action-RPG-meets-farming-sim series, is up for grabs for $39.88 on Switch and $49.94 on Switch 2. Guardians of Azuma was a Switch 2 launch title, and it’s one of the rare third-party titles with a true physical edition; the full 18GB file is on the Switch 2 game card. Guardians of Azuma’s Earth Dancer Limited Edition for Switch is also on sale at Amazon for $80 (was $100).
The digital edition of Guardians of Azuma goes for $60 on Switch and $70 on Switch 2, so you’re saving $20 by opting for the physical edition. The Earth Dancer Limited Edition is only available on Switch, so Switch 2 owners will want to snag the upgrade if they take advantage of Amazon’s deal.
Marvelous’ newest Story of Seasons farming sim is also on sale at Amazon. Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar is discounted to $50 (was $60) on Switch 2 and $40 (was $50) on Switch. The Premium Edition is also on sale for both platforms. This is the first price cut on Grand Bazaar since its August launch. Like all Marvelous titles on Switch 2 (so far), the full game is on the card.
The Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Guardians of Azuma has higher resolution and frame rates. It’s also one of the games that supports Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, allowing you to play the game similarly to how you would if you bought the PC version.

Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma – Earth Dancer Limited Edition
Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma has been a hit with both critics and fans. It currently holds a Metascore of 81 on review aggregator Metacritic (a GameSpot sister site). Guardians of Azuma has a user review average of 8.2/10, and the Steam version currently sits at “Very Positive” based on over 1,000 customer reviews.
The new entry takes the RPG-meets-farming-sim formula to new heights. Set in Azuma–a fantasy world inspired by Japanese folklore–the game places players in the role of a magical martial artist known as an Earth Dancer. You embark on a journey to restore the land by building farms, repairing villages, and completing RPG-style quests where you’ll square off against bosses with magical swords imbued with elements.

Outside of the additional accessories, the N40 is the same flagship controller 8BitDo launched earlier this year. The Retro Cube 2 is a dual stereo speaker with a retro gaming flair. At roughly 3.5 inches on each side and weighing just a pound, the Retro Cube 2 is a small, lightweight speaker with a budget-friendly price point and some nice features.
The red speakers resemble the Super Buttons on 8BitDo’s range of mechanical keyboards, including the new limited-edition Retro 68 and the manufacturer’s original 87-key N Edition.
The Retro Cube 2 connects to your devices via Bluetooth, 2.4GHz Wireless, or USB- wired. It has two audio modes, one geared toward gaming and another for music, and a built-in microphone. The NES-style D-pad isn’t just for show; the D-pad controls the volume, play/pause, and is used to sync your devices.
It comes with a wireless charging dock that also has room for the USB-C cord. And just like with the charging dock on the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth and Pro 3 Bluetooth Gamepad, the dock has a built-in wireless extender for 2.4GHz audio.
The Retro Cube 2 has a 2,000mAh rechargeable battery with up to 30 hours of playback on a full charge. Charging time is 3-5 hours, but if you keep it on the dock, you’ll struggle to run out of battery.
The N40 Edition 8BitDo keyboard is the manufacturer’s first 68-key model. Generally, keyboards with 68 keys are called 65% keyboards. So far, 8BitDo’s mechanical keyboards have been tenkeyless 87-key models and full-size 108-key editions.
Unlike the vast majority of 8BitDo products, the Retro 68 is expensive. At $500, it’s by far the priciest product in 8BitDo’s catalog. For reference, 8BitDo wireless keyboards typically sell for around $100. So, why does the N40 Edition cost so much more? Every component is made of aluminum alloy, from the frame to the keycaps to the first pair of wireless Super Buttons. The large microswitch buttons can be reprogrammed on the fly without using 8BitDo’s Ultimate Software V2.
The custom gasket-mounted N40 Edition uses Kailh Box Ice Cream Pro Max Linear Switches with six custom dampeners and RGB backlighting. Like other 8BitDo keyboards, the N40 Edition has a hot-swappable PCB–though it’s hard to imagine wanting to switch out the aluminum alloy components.
The Retro 68 supports Bluetooth LE, 2.4GHz Wireless, and wired connections on Windows and Android. It can run for up to 300 hours on a full charge. The limited-edition bundle also comes with a protective pouch and certificate of authenticity.
The Retro 68 would pair perfectly with 8BitDo’s NES-inspired mouse. The first wave of preorders for the keyboard also include the Retro R8 Wireless Mouse, which launched earlier this year for $50.
If you like the look of the N40 Edition and don’t want to spend $500, the good news is the 8BitDo N Edition TKL Mechanical Keyboard is only $90 at Amazon. The full-size model is $108 right now.
It’s also worth noting that Amazon has some nice deals on standard edition versions of the Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller. You can get the white Ultimate 2 Bluetooth for $60 (was $70), while the black and yellow editions are $63 each.
