Nintendo has rolled out another new update for Mario Kart World. This patch brings the Switch 2 racing game up to version 1.4.0 and includes a swath of quality-of-life improvements and other adjustments.

Among the numerous tweaks, Nintendo has added a “Custom Items” rule to the game, allowing you to adjust which items appear during a round. The Custom Items rule can be applied to VS Race, Balloon Battle, and Coin Runners modes.

In addition, Nintendo has tweaked some of the course layouts leading to and from Koopa Troopa Beach. The company has also changed it so that every race heading toward Koopa Troopa Beach will now require you to complete two laps after reaching the course.

Beyond that, Nintendo has added an option to open Photo Mode while competing against a ghost in Time Trials. When paused, the game will also now display the name of the current music track as well as the title the track was originally taken from.

Rounding out the update is a long list of bug fixes, resolving a variety of issues that could occur in Toad’s Factory and other courses. You can read through Nintendo’s full patch notes below.

Nintendo has been periodically releasing updates for Mario Kart World since the game launched alongside the Switch 2 this past June. The version 1.3.0 update, which arrived back in September, made a number of quality-of-life improvements to Free Roam mode, making it easier to track which P Switches and Peach Medallions you’ve collected, among other changes.

• When Dash Food is taken by someone, shortened the time until that Dash Food reappears.
• When a coin placed on water is taken by someone, shortened the time until that coin reappears.

• Fixed an issue where the dash time was not correct after a Charge Jump.
• Fixed an issue where the player would slip through a wall when being stomped on from above by a vehicle driving on the road.
• Fixed an issue where a player would be squashed when touching a Thwomp that had landed.
• Fixed an issue where a Bullet Bill would not be displayed after using it.
• Fixed an issue where a character would be blurry even when making “Focus” “Character” when taking a photo in “Photo Mode” on the Pause Menu.
